Tubing Pump, Heavy wall barrel — cup or mechanical hold-down

The ELSI TH pump is built to move the maximum amount of fluid. It is a precision metal plunger sucker rod (tubing) type with an API B13 heavy wall barrel. Available as THC (cup hold-down) or THM (mechanical hold-down). The barrel assembly including seating nipple is part of the tubing string. The plunger assembly including standing valve unit is run on the end of the sucker rod string. Either a "Tap Type" or "Sure Hold" puller on the bottom of the plunger assembly retrieves the standing valve assembly and hold-down.

Barrel:API B13 heavy wall barrel
Bore sizes:1-3/4"2-1/4"2-3/4"3-3/4"
Designations:THC (cup) · THM (mechanical)

Advantages

  • Large fluid volume

Largest bore size in any given tubing — just 0.250" smaller than nominal tubing ID. Produces greater volume than insert pumps.

  • Heavy/viscous fluid capable

Large fluid flow areas through standing and traveling valves make it ideal for heavy, viscous fluid production.

  • Strong construction

Heavy wall barrel connects directly to tubing string. Sucker rod connects directly to top plunger cage.

Limitations

  • Not recommended for deep wells

Large bore increases fluid load on sucker rod string. Stroke loss from rod/tubing stretch. Generally not recommended below 5,000 ft.

  • Not recommended for gassy wells

Low gas compression ratios due to un-swept volume at bottom of stroke from SV assembly and puller.

  • Pull tubing to replace barrel

Barrel is part of tubing string — only way to replace is pulling tubing. Proper barrel selection is critical.

THE

THE Pump

THE Tubing Pump — maximum fluid displacement, no retrievable standing valve

The ELSI THE Pump is built to move the maximum amount of fluid. It is a tubing type with a B13 heavy wall barrel, but unlike the API TH Pump, it doesn't use a retrievable standing valve (SV) assembly. The SV is connected to the tubing at the lower end of the barrel, rather than being cup or mechanically anchored onto the seating nipple. This allows the use of a larger SV size and subsequently a bigger volume of fluid passes through it, obtaining better pump fillage.

Barrel:B13 heavy wall barrel
Bore sizes:1-3/4"2-1/4"2-3/4"

Key Features

Larger standing valve size — bigger fluid volume passes through
Better pump fillage obtained vs standard TH
Fewer fittings required — simplified assembly
No hold-down needed
Standing valve "three pieces type" (C66 Assembly)
Plug Seat replaces Puller in traveling unit

Advantages

  • Maximum fluid displacement

Larger SV size than standard TH allows greater fluid volume throughput and better pump fillage.

  • Simplified construction

No seating assembly, no seating nipple, no lower extension nipple or lower tubing coupling. Fewer components means fewer potential failure points.

  • Easy connectivity

C66 Assembly connects to barrel bottom via regular C35 Coupling. Specially designed connector tightens standing valve at bottom end.

Limitations

  • Pull tubing to replace standing valve

SV runs into well with tubing. If SV is damaged, tubing string must be pulled. A tubing drain must be installed above the pump.

  • No seating assembly, seating nipple, lower extension nipple or lower tubing coupling required.
THOS

THOS

Oversized Tubing Pump — maximum bore in any given tubing size

The ELSI THOS is an oversized tubing pump with a B16 heavy wall barrel, attached to the lower end of the tubing string and run into the well with the tubing. The plunger assembly is in the barrel when run in and cannot be retrieved with the rod string. An On/Off Tool is used to connect the rod string to the plunger assembly. A clutch between the seat plug (P66) and cage (C14) is used to connect or disconnect the On/Off attachment.

Barrel:B16 heavy wall barrel, RX type
Bore sizes:2-3/4"3-1/4"3-3/4"4-3/4"

Key Features

B16 heavy wall barrel — oversized bore for maximum production
On/Off Tool (TK) connects rod string to plunger assembly
Clutch mechanism between seat plug and cage
Polished rod and coupling included in traveling unit

Advantages

  • High-volume production

Biggest bore size available in any given tubing size — significantly increased production vs standard tubing pumps.

  • Oversized bore where needed

Ideal for wells where a bigger bore is required but tubing size is constrained.

  • Wells of moderate depth

Strong construction suitable for moderate-depth applications requiring maximum fluid displacement.

Limitations

  • Pull tubing to replace barrel

Stationary unit is installed in tubing string. Only way to replace barrel is to pull tubing. Tubing drains recommended.

  • Plunger not independently retrievable

Plunger assembly cannot be retrieved with rod string — On/Off Tool required for connection/disconnection.
